Sacred Heart

Wauzeka, WI

At Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish we are thankful for our many blessings.  We know that much of what we are able to accomplish is due to our generous members who acknowledge that all they have has been lovingly bestowed on them by God.

We are a faith-filled Catholic parish where every individual is received with genuine Christian hospitality, embodying the love of Christ for all. Upon entering the doors, visitors and longtime parishioners alike are greeted by a friendly atmosphere that makes them feel valued and at home. This isn't just a superficial gesture, but a genuine commitment to building relationships and creating an environment where every person is seen as a beloved child of God.

This culture of welcome extends beyond the Sunday liturgy, encompassing ministries, social gatherings, and outreach initiatives that ensure everyone, from the lifelong Catholic to the curious seeker, feels like an integral part of the parish family.  The heart of this parish life is a deep and abiding faith, centered on the Eucharist and the sacraments. Our Sunday celebration of the Mass draws the faithful into an active and conscious participation in the Paschal Mystery.

  • History

In 1879 Bishop Heiss approved a request from area Catholics to build a church in Wauzeka.  Through the hard work and sacrifices of many people the church was completed and Fr. John Jutz, SJ celebrated the first Mass in February 1881.  In those years, Sacred Heart was served by priests from Campion College and St. Wenceslaus. Fr. Edmund Bettinger oversaw the remodeling of the church in 1939 and in 1946 the construction of a rectory to house our first resident pastor, Fr. John Agnew.

Subsequent pastors included Fr. Connelly, Fr. Zoll and Fr. Cassidy.  Fr. Gerum initiated changes that coincided with those determined by Vatican II, and Fr. Grassl oversaw a second church renovation.
